Take-Two losses rise, GTAIV ships 13 million

Ever since analyst Michael Pachter upgraded his rating of Take-Two Interactive to "buy" last week, the publisher's share price has been slowly rising skyward. Just today, shares in the company rose nearly 14 percent to hit $6.85 at the closing bell--nearly $2 more than where it was when Pachter issued his prognostication. "13 million copies? The cabaret tickets are on me, Roman!" All that changed at about 4:30 p.m. Eastern time, when Take-Two's share price began to sink in after-hours trading. The drop was precipitated by the New York-based publisher issuing its earnings report for the November-January quarter, the first of its fiscal year. On one hand, the three-month period saw the company take in $256.8 million in revenues, a 7 percent increase from $240.4 million during the same period the prior year. On the other, losses for the quarter totaled $50.4 million ($0.66 per share), up from $38 million ($0.52 per share) the year prior.

Insomniac wired for PS3 exclusive

Insomniac Games has been committed to Sony's hardware dating all the way back to Disruptor, its maiden effort released in 1996. Since then, the Burbank, California-based independent studio has crafted some of the most well-known franchises appearing on Sony's console, including Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and, most recently, Resistance, the first installment of which was a launch game for the PlayStation 3. Consequently, it came as no surprise when Insomniac revealed today that it is currently at work on a new game exclusively for the PS3. Word of the upcoming project came by way of an announcement touting Insomniac as one of the top five places to work in California. As such, no details were revealed on the game, which Insomniac still regards as "unannounced."

J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot getting game tie-in

In its attempt to help hype Lost creator J.J. Abrams' forthcoming reboot of the Star Trek film franchise, Paramount Pictures has apparently revealed a secret game project. Fan site Trekmovie.com has posted a scan of a flyer its editors found tucked inside the Blu-ray set of Season 1 of the original Star Trek series. The scan appears to be for a game titled Star Trek: DAC developed by Naked Sky Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based studio behind the decently reviewed sci-fi action game Roboblitz, released on Xbox Live and the PC in 2006. With its depiction of the new Enterprise from the film in a space battle with several Romulan vessels, the game appears to be a space combat title, perhaps similar to the Battlestar Galactica tie-in from late 2007.
