Talent points can be spent at the talents window to purchase talents. These talents enable characters / classes improve their abilities, and to acquire new special abilities.

The three best places to mine Thorium are the Burning Steppes, the Eastern Plaguelands, and Winterspring. I've had a good amount of success in the Eastern Plaguelands, but I'm sure it varies from server to server. Now, since these places might be a little crowded, you can head over to Un'Goro and mine Thorium from some veins in that area. It's not uncommon to make over 50 gold an hour just mining Thorium and Arcane Crystals in these areas.

Many people are also ready to pay so that they can save time by not having to do a trip to the vendor.

Since leveling is the most important thing, only take First Aid as a profession. Running back and forth to profession trainers is time consuming. So is getting enough resources in your inventory to make use of the profession. Instead, use that time for questing and building experience. First Aid requires cloth and is a profession that has immediate benefits after battles. Make some bandages and get moving again.

One of the worst parts about leveling mining is when you are getting out of the Tin phase before the Iron phase. It's hard to find a large quantity of Tin, and it becomes tedious farming it. The nodes respawn quickly and you can level up your mining in less than an hour if you're the only one in the cave. (You can also sell the Incendicite Ore on the Auction House to make a little extra gold in the process - get the quest from Pilot Longbeard in The Miltary Ward in Ironforge.)
