So you are in the beginning of World of Warcraft. Pick two gathering professions. The cool thing about gathering professions is that you start making money right away, walk up to a mineral vein or a plant or a dead animal and grab those mats! Its 100% profit! And since you are going to be spending a lot of time running around doing quests and killing animal it only makes sense to take advantage of gathering professions. Mining and Herbalism are the biggest moneymakers, pick mining or herbalism and then pick up Skinning. The one negative thing about gathering professions is you will find your bags fill up very quickly. The first thing you are going buy are 14 slot bags.

The reason why these items sell so well in the Auction House is that you only get them from one or two vendors and many people are too lazy to figure out who and where these vendors are. When you have this knowledge you can earn easy gold. This is kind of proven by the fact that you can buy recipes from a vendor in a city and then auction them off in the Auction House of the same city for a big profit. Many people are also ready to pay so that they can save time by not having to do a trip to the vendor.

Since leveling is the most important thing, only take First Aid as a profession. Running back and forth to profession trainers is time consuming. So is getting enough resources in your inventory to make use of the profession. Instead, use that time for questing and building experience. First Aid requires cloth and is a profession that has immediate benefits after battles. Make some bandages and get moving again.
